How to Adjust Idle Speed

This how-to is applicable to any Keihin 40mm CV carburetor, typically found on 1984 to 1999 Harley Davidson Evolution motors (Softails, Dynas, Sportsters, etc.). This schematic diagram may also be helpful when working on your carburetor.

Idle Speed Adjustment - Step 1
Step 1:
Warm up your motorcycle to normal operating temperature. On the right side of the motorcycle, locate your carburetor idle speed adjustment screw. You may have to remove your air cleaner cover to access it (it's behind the throttle cables where they attach to the carburetor.

Idle Speed Adjustment - Step 2
Step 2:
Using a phillips head screw driver, turn the screw clockwise to raise the idle speed, or counterclockwise to lower the idle speed. That's it!
